Mosaics

Memory Makers magazine came out with some great mosaic layouts in past issues.  There are several things to keep in mind when planning this type of layout.  The first and most important is the photo(s) themselves.  Mosaics can require a lot of cutting up of the photos.  Make sure you are not using one of a kind pictures.  The best photos for mosaics are landscapes and scenery for the beginner.  Choose the photo carefully.

Another thing to keep in mind is shape.  The layouts presented consist of squares or tiles.  You can use random sizes of cut up paper or photos but this can be more difficult.  To present this technique, squares are the easiest to cut and explain for the beginning mosaic scrapbook artist.

Be sure and consider color when creating a mosaic.  This can be the most important part of the design.  Mosaics are usually looked at for the color blend and intricacy.  Choose colors that not only blend with the photos but also create an interesting focal point for the layout.

When attempting your first mosaic, think about starting with the basic square.  These are easy to cut with a trimmer and still remain accurate.  Another device that works great when cutting cardstock to create a mosaic is a square punch.  This was used in the fall trees layout.
