Ornaments

The holidays are here! Time to go shopping, bake some cookies, go more shopping, trim the tree, turn on the seasonal music, and do a little more shopping. This is my favorite time of year. My house is full of people and there are abundant activities. I can't seem to get enough! In years past, I have set aside scrapbooking for the month and focused on the events that I will scrapbook at a later date. I am now far too involved to take the month off!

The ornament letters for this month are really quite easy to do. They can be done with watercolor, pencil or markers. You could even punch circles out of cardstock and paper piece the little doohickey at the top of the ornament. You can use them on a border or in a tree. However you like, they will add a nice touch to your holiday layouts.

1. Use a circle template to trace the ornament. You can punch out a circle and use the negative or the circle itself for tracing.

2. Space your circles to allow room for the tops. Sketch in the top.

3. If pen or pencil, outline these with black pen, then erase your pencil marks.  (If you are going to watercolor the ornaments, I use a drafting pencil, traced the ornament and left the pencil lines. I used my favorite, Derwent Watercolour Pencils, to color the ornament in, and then blended with a wet brush. If you want to, you can shade the outside edges with a darker shade. You should use a watercolor paper for this process, and I didn't do a total outline for these ornaments. You can use regular cardstock for the pencils and pens, and these I outlined.)

4. Fill in the ornament with color.

5. Add the lines to the cap and draw the hanger.

I think that these would look great with vellum and shade the edges with chalk. Keep up the good work and letter your hearts out!
