Many years ago a dear elderly lady from our church used to address her Christmas cards with this font. She took the time to teach me how to do it while telling the story of how she and her husband met through a handwriting competition, which she won.

It isn't necessary to have beautiful handwriting to do this. Most people would have excellent writing if they slowed down. At first, this will go a little slowly, but once you get the hang of it, you can address your whole stack of cards or do an extensive piece of journaling easily and quickly. There are line guides on the market or you can make your own. Just take a piece of paper with lines appropriate to the task (close for journaling and envelopes, farther apart for titles) and darken the lines with a fine, felt tipped marker. Then slip the lined paper under the one on which you are lettering. A light box helps but isn't necessary.

Just start with your regular handwriting and a green pen. Each time you make a loop, in a capital letter or a lower-case letter, stop and form a holly leaf. If you cannot do this easily at first, then just slowly write the words on white scrap paper in pencil. Go back and erase the loops. Replace them with holly leaves and trace the title or journaling again.

When you are finished with the address, or journaling story, go back and add 3 little red berries at the base of each leaf. I just started using a red metallic gel-pen for the dots and I really like that effect.
