To begin, measure from a short edge to find the center of the 8 ½” x 11” piece of cardstock, score and fold it in half.

Measure 4” from the fold and score a line. Fold and crease it well. Repeat the same steps on the other end.

Unfold and flatten out the cardstock. Measure 6” from a long edge, score, fold and crease well. Re-fold the original folds and crease. Secure the pocket flaps on the two end sections with glue.

On both 6” x 11” pieces of cardstock, measure 4” from a short edge and score a line. Fold and crease it well. Measure 4 1/8” from the first fold and score a line. Fold and crease this as well.

On the edge of the narrowest section, find the center and punch out a thumb notch with a half circle punch.

Glue all 3 pieces together. The pocket section should be in the center and the end sections are glued in place over the secured pocket flaps.

Cut patterned paper and glue to the back side of the book. Secure one section at a time and carefully work into creases and around folds. Do not cover the last two sections on each end. These will be the front and back covers and inside pockets.

Cut 2 slits in the center of the back cover. Insert the ends of the elastic and join them with staples on the inside of the book.

Apply patterned papers as desired. Secure the end flaps to the inside by gluing along the top and bottom edges.

Cut tags from cardstock, sponge edges with brown ink and insert into pockets. Add stickers, ribbons and photos as desired.

You are now one step closer to being prepared to get back to school and remembering every moment of it.
