Teacher’s Gatefold Album
By Chia Wald
The second project is a Gatefold Memory Album for a teacher. The idea is that you can take photos in the classroom or on field trips throughout the year and then put them all into this mini book at the end. It's a nice sturdy little size that would slip well into a purse so it would also make a super "Brag Book".
Supplies:
• Cardstock
• Patterned paper
• Barn Door (Sandylion)
• School Words (Carolee’s Creations/Adorn It)
• Designer Dries Clear Glue (Art Institute)
• Ribbon
• School Daze Stickers (Bo Bunny Press)
• Hole punch
• Ruler
• Craft Knife
From black cardstock, cut one 12” x 4 ¼” piece. Measuring from the left score it at 4 ¼”, 4 ½”, 8 ¾” and 9”. Trim the corners to make a flap on the right end. Cut four 8” x 4” pieces and fold in half.
Punch three small holes along the fold in the four matching pieces, 1” in from each edge and one in the center. Punch matching holes in ¼” wide spaces of the large piece, 1 1/8” in from each edge and one in the center.
Fold the long piece with the flap on top. Measure 1 ½” from the end of the flap and make a pencil mark on both sides of the flap. Unfold and draw a line between the two pencil marks and then cut along the line. This will be the closing slot.
Decorate all of the pages by layering with paper and adding stickers. When layering the paper on the back side of the panel you cut the slot into, be sure you only glue around the edges so that you will still be able to slip the flap into the slot.
Attach the pages to the cover by placing two on each side and tying in place with a thin ribbon.
Attach the cover layer by gluing it only to the left side of the cover. This leaves the right side free for the flap to slip under and into the slot. Add photos of class activities throughout the year. The book can be given at the beginning of the year as a welcome gift or at the end complete with the year’s special events.
