Dear Ghosts & Goblins, you are cordially invited to the year’s spookiest Halloween party. Come one and come all to our Haunted House on Halloween night. Be there or be scared!

As you plan your holiday celebrations this year, make a showpiece everyone will be talking about for months – all from chipboard and paper. Create gingerbread houses, haunted houses and a favorite holiday scene that can last and last.

Gingerbread house making is a tradition in our house. After laboring over stacks of gingerbread, piles of candy, and tubs of frosting, we step back to see what we’ve created. I’ll admit we’ve made some interesting abodes, some nice and some, let’s just say we had no problem throwing out at the end of the holiday season. But the nice ones, it’s always kind of tough to get rid of those and start the messy process all over again the next year.

Now, we don’t have to start all over with the nice houses. We can just store away our creations, pull them out the next year and admire them once again. Karin Barnes created the company Retired…let’s do lunch to “feed your creative side with fun paper crafts.” One of her creations is the Chipboard “Gingerbread” House. You design your house as simple or extravagant as you please using the included chipboard pieces, templates and the papers of your choice.

Like in this example, basic Halloween themed elements are placed around the house including ghosts and a tombstone. For a more dramatic effect, some of the shutters are attached at various angles to give the appearance of an old haunted house. The original house was cut down in our first example to give it a more spooky effect. Additional Halloween elements are added as well – a leafless tree, fallen leaves, a climbing vine, spiders, and bats escaping from the chimney.

Each Starter House Kit contains:
1 Chipboard house: house, roof, chimney, dormer, door and chipboard for shutters
Instructions
Window pane template
House detail
Chimney cap template

You will also need:
Adhesive - Tacky glue works for most of the kit, however wrinkles the paper for the windows, shutters and door. I recommend glue sticks for that part. ZipDry works great for the entire project, but requires a little more dry time.
Scissors
Razor knife
Paper clips
Ruler/straight edge
Pen/pencil
10” cardboard cake round or small cardboard for base
1 – 8” x 10” sheet vellum for window film
1 sheet colored cardstock for shutters and doors

Optional supplies include:
Paper trimmer with decorative blade or decorative scissors
Small hole punch

Black ink pad
Copier to transfer window pattern
Removable tape
Straight tape
12” sheet waxed paper
10” x 10” x 10” box for storage
