I’ve always wanted to create my own shaker boxes for sometime now. It’s quite easy to create your own shaker boxes. There are ready made templates for shaker boxes sold in some scrapbooking stores but I’ve created this ornament shaker box from scratch.

This idea is inspired by a Christmas swap. The swap challenge was to alter a Christmas themed paperclip. So, I created a Christmas shaker box paperclip.

To create your own ornament shaker box, simply follow the steps below.

Cut out two circles from plain cardstock. One must be slightly bigger than the other. Cut out a circle window on the bigger circle. The window should be smaller than the small circle. Cover the bigger circle with patterned papers, paints or anything that you desire. Since it’s a Christmas ornament shaker box, I’ve written “Merry Christmas” on the smaller circle after I’ve used some ink to dab on the background.

Cut pieces of double-sided foam tape to cover the edges of the smaller circle as shown above.

Fill the middle with confetti. Tip: Make sure that the colors you chose work perfectly with the overall look of your shaker box or project.

Cover the window on the bigger circle with a clear plastic sheet. In my project, I’ve recycled a plastic cover sheet of an unwanted box. Then place the bigger circle on top of the smaller circle. Tip: Make sure you can see the middle of the smaller circle through the window.

Finally, add some embellishments with different textures and dimensions to give a more sophisticated look to the shaker box.

This is the finished altered paperclip that I’ve made for the Christmas swap. The ornament shaker box definitely makes the design look richer, fun and interesting.
