Kodomo’s stamps can vary from simple words or phrases in both English and Asian languages to detailed images inspired by Japanese and Chinese folklore. Designs look lovely stamped and enhanced with a variety of pen colors or simply stamped in a rainbow ink pad. Words or phrases are always wonderful to use as a last touch on the outside or inside of the card, but another fun use for them is as a design element. Randomly stamp the word over the background of the card front before adding the focal point. This look is especially interesting when a foreign word or phrase is used.

Although their papers come in a 12” x 12” size, don’t feel that they should only be used for scrapbooking. Trim the paper so it fits over the cover of a journal, or selectively cut out specific designs and use them for the front of a card. Another fun idea is to cut the paper down into smaller squares and use them for origami or tea bag folding. And remember, never, never throw away those trimmings. Strips of paper can be woven together and used as a textural background for cards, books or box tops.

Kodomo’s kimono fabric ribbon is definitely a special embellishment for a project. Crafters only need to use a little of this fabulous ribbon to make their card pop. Simply fold 2” of ribbon in half and staple it to the edge of a card for a splash of color. A crafter can also give the illusion of using a long piece of ribbon by attaching a 1/2” piece to either side of a stamped paper before adhering it to the front of a card. And no worries about fraying edges, because this ribbon doesn’t unravel even if you pull on the ends!

Stamping on surfaces other than paper can sometimes be tricky, but not when you use Kodomo’s spruce wood sheets. The smooth flat surface is perfect for crafters who are looking for an alternative to paper. Due to the porous nature of the wood, the best ink to use is a pigment ink to reduce the chance of bleeding. The ink dries nicely, however if you want to speed up the process you can use a heat tool, but keep it moving so it doesn’t warp the wood. After the ink is dry embellish the wood sheet further by wrapping a string or wire around it and secure the ends to the back. Attach the decorated wood sheet to a card front using foam tape and, voila, you have a fabulous looking card that was quick and simple to make!
