When my mother was 19, she and two of her friends ran away from their homes in a small Iowa town to the big city of Chicago. They stayed in a 'women's hotel' and lived on bread and peanut butter for two and a half months before they wrote home asking to return. This is one of the few pictures of their misadventure as business women in the big city. My mom passed away ten years ago and she retained her feisty and independent attitude right up to the end. I do miss her so.
