That is exactly what happened here in this layout: “My Story.” My daughter was about six at the time, and she lived in a princess room painted like a farm. Our small family of four loves all types of animals. She wanted farm animals as pets, but our neighborhood has restrictions. Therefore, the solution to this dilemma was to add them to her walls.

One day I walked into her “farm” to find her room in a complete disaster. She proceeded to tell me that the dogs had made the mess! What a typical comment for a kid.
However, when I went to record this event, I discovered that I had not taken any pictures of her! Thus, the challenge began: tell the story, keep the layout photo centered, and use my existing supplies.
Start by pulling out papers, embellishments, and stamps: SHOP within your existing supplies. DO NOT think about the perfect embellishment or button that is online or at the local store. Find the perfect goodies within your own scrapbook supplies.
The trick is to know your supplies and be organized. I have been told that I have many supplies, which is true. Nevertheless, I know what I have, and I use what I have. Think about your theme and the words you want to use. Discover these finds within your current scrapbooking supplies.
My method to using my stash: 1. Look at the colors in picture(s). 2. Think about the feel of the layout I want to evoke. 3. Pull patterned paper that flows with steps 1 & 2. 4. Begin layering paper with picture. 5. Find a place for journaling and create journaling block (see previous article on journaling with transparencies). 6. Add YOUR favorite embellishments to accent the theme of layout. 7. Stamp on the white space. 8. Add a bit of technique – chalk, stickles, misting, etc. 9. Title
Voila! You will end up with a visually pleasing layout that showcases your picture(s) using supplies that you had already bought whether it was last week or seven years ago on your first trip to a lss.
Embrace your existing goodies and find the perfect paper or embellishment within your own store – your scrapping stash!
