As always, Square One is dedicated to the proposition that every project can be customized to suit the taste and skill level of the maker. Choose whatever butterfly stamps you want in whatever size(s) you like. Stamp with inks in the colors you like best. Use embossing powder and a heat tool if you want to add dimension to the stamped images. If you select outline stamps, use permanent ink and add color using the medium you enjoy most (pencils, watercolors, markers, etc.). If you don't want to cut out butterflies, your cards can be flat, like the bookmarks. If you enjoy cutting the butterflies but don't want to cut around the tiny antennae, cut them off and make wire antennae instead.

Use the projects shown as a source of inspiration and head in whatever direction you want. In addition to cards, add butterflies to your layouts, or stamp them in your journals. It wouldn't be cheating if you used stickers, pre-made butterflies, or die cuts instead of - or in addition to - stamped butterflies. Make any substitutions you like!

My collection of butterfly stamps (rubber and clear, mounted and un-mounted) numbers close to fifty. If you already have butterfly stamps, use what you have on hand. If not, a quick trip to the store or an Internet search will yield hundreds. Rather than trying to include an enormous assortment, I decided to stick with just two - both of them multi-step stamps that are long-time favorites. I chose these particular images because the coloring is built into the 3-step stamping process.

No matter what stamps you choose, here is an important BIG HINT: Stamp a LOT of butterflies before you begin cutting and assembling your cards. I stamped nine sheets of 8 ½" x 11" cardstock to use as backgrounds, and many sheets with row after row of butterflies to cut out! I changed colors several times during the process to keep things interesting.
