A few months ago, I hopped a plane to Japan to begin a new chapter. I assumed that the transition would be an easy one but here I am still feeling lost and unacclimated. I keep thinking that I’m going to get the hang of this eventually, but it has been difficult so far. However, there are several things that keep my spirits buoyed - the artwork that we receive here on a daily basis being one. The talent and creativity of our submitting artists constantly amazes me. I am so grateful to be able to share this work with the world; it is what drives me. I can always immerse myself in art and come out feeling refreshed and ready for whatever life has to throw at me. In art I find my redemption from all the trials of the world.

Another way to refresh the spirit is to take a break from the real world and just get away. Vacations are a perfect example, and this month we are encouraging just that, even if it’s just a trip to your craft area to scrap a page about your favorite escape. Several artists have contributed their personal holiday pages, check out Jean Marmo, who used the rule of three for a successful page. While Susan Zennario went wild with the amount of pictures she used, showing us how to use several images and still have great layout.

But you don’t have to travel far to find respite from the daily grind. Summertime has a natural solution in warm sunshine and cool water. You’ll find plenty of projects dedicated to fun in sun and water this month. Caroline Hancock’s family loves to spend time in the pool, see how she scrapped these cherished moments. And playing in the blowup pool in the backyard is a favorite activity for most kids, the Water Babies article shares these happy childhood memories.

Escape may be as easy as finding joy in the simple things, like family and friends. This is easier when we have a good excuse to get together. Celebrating our American heritage is as easy as pie, whether you do it in the backyard with sparklers or at the water’s edge watching fireworks, commemorate these times by dedicating a layout or two. Americana inspiration is here, find out what other artists are doing by clicking here. And don’t miss Michael Strong’s tutorial on making star-themed cards and card holder.

All this and much more awaits you on the pages of our newest issue. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to your feedback. Artistic delights to you all!
