Music to My Ears
By: Lisa Swift
Intermediate
My daughter started playing violin last year, in fourth grade. Although I get to hear her practice at home, I was excited to hear her play as part of the orchestra group. The concert was really impressive and she did a great job. I just love the bottom photo as it shows her playing with some of her classmates.

Making Music Together
By: Dale Tiernan
Intermediate
I've always wanted to scrap this adorable photo of my family playing music together. My husband plays keyboards and guitar and is keen to pass on his love of music to our sons. This is an old photo. My husband has a garage band in which he plays lead guitar and sings. Our older son can play clarinet and our younger son plays viola and violin. I guess it has worked! I found this little drum kit chipboard piece and thought it was the perfect accompaniment to this wonderful photo.

Supplies:
- Adhesives: Tape Runner (Creative Memories); photo dots
- Alphabet/Letters: Wintertime Alphas (Echo Park)
- Cardstock: blue
- Chipboard: music chipboard (Scrap FX)
- Embellishments: felt stars, So Sophie/Charming Possibilities Small Accessories (My Mind's Eye)
- Ink: Sepia (Archival Ink)
- Paint: mix of blue and white
- Patterned paper: Zippity Big Flower (GCD Studios); , Rock Stack (Die Cuts With A View); Lass Anthem (Sassafras Lass); Sing Loud, Be Mine - Love Song (Echo Park)
- Pens: brown (ZIG)
- Ribbon: brown with white stitching
- Stamps: Family clear stamp (7gypsies); Duchess clear stamp (Kaisercraft)
- Stickers: music notes (Creative Memories)
1. First I chose a blue background. I used the blue side of Zippity Big Flower.
2. Next I chose a stamp and inked it with sepia colour. I stamped it up the right hand side of the page. It was a small stamp so I had to do it 3 times. I cleverly covered the joins up later.
3. Next I cut a piece of the Rock Stack PP measuring 17cms by 18 1/2cms. I adhered it to the page 4cms from the right edge and 5cms from the top.
4. Mount the photo onto the Sass red side PP. Adhere to page 1cm from left and 1cm from bottom of the Rock Stack PP.
5. Cut a 12" length of ribbon. Adhere directly underneath your photo across the length of the page covering the join in the stamping with the ribbon.
6. Mix some paint, I chose blue, and paint your chipboard piece and set aside to dry.
7. Stamp your Together title and cut around the word, set aside.
8. Add the zigzag strips and journal tab pieces to the page.
9. Cut a small piece of Echo Park PP (music note side). Adhere across the join of the stamping on right side.
10. Add the Together word on the left side of the zigzag paper.
11. Use some glue dots to stick your chipboard piece to the page directly to the top and left side of the photo.
12. Add your alpha title stickers across the top of the Rock Stack PP. I've added them crooked to add a sense of whimsy.
13. Add your felt stars and music note stickers.
14. Finish off with your journaling.

1st PyroMusical Competition
By: Kathleen Hernandez
Advanced
I don’t regularly indulge in listening to fine music or watching a fireworks display; but the few times I’ve been afforded the luxury, I’m always happy for the time well spent. So when I had the opportunity to attend a concert mixed with great fireworks, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse!
The show we attended was dubbed the 1st World PyroMusical Competition. It was held at Manila Bay fronting the Mall of Asia here in Manila, Philippines. We ooohed and aaahed at the fantastic synchronized performances by two countries on the night we attended. We went home marveling at the perfect timing of music and pyrotechnics, and thought of how technology had played such a major part in each country’s performance. It was indeed a fantastic show!

Supplies:
- Adhesives: All Purpose Glue Stick (Elmer’s); 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue (Beacon Adhesives)
- Alphabet/Letters: Foam Alphabet Stickers (All About Scrapbooking)
- Cardstock: blue (Star Paper Corp.)
- Embellishments: buttons, glittered teddy bears (All About Scrapbooking); butterfly (UBL)
- Patterned paper: 12x12 Fireworks glittered paper (Robin’s Nest); Stripes Mama-razzi Collection (Bo Bunny)
- Pens: sign pen (Parker)
- Ribbon: rickrack (All About Scrapbooking)
- Tools: Glue Shot (Stanley)
Instructions:
1. For this layout, I chose to work with various shades of blue as the predominant color. Then I added other color accents based the colors in my base glittered paper.
2. Shape your plain cardstock which serves as the backing paper of your photo. Adhere the shaped cardstock onto the lower right portion of your base paper and doodle on the edges. I dotted the edges with my sign pen, then applied faux stitching on the inner edge for a whimsical look.
3. Adhere a patterned paper of your choice, cut horizontally, on the bottom of your base paper slightly covering the bottom edge of the shaped cardstock. (You may opt to use a border strip in lieu of the cut patterned paper.)
4. Adhere rickrack on the lower edge of the patterned paper.
5. Next, cut your 4x6 photo into 4 equal parts. I cut my photo at the center, both horizontally and vertically.
6. Adhere the cut-up photo slightly on the left of the shaped cardstock.
7. Add embellishments (glittered teddy bears, assorted buttons and butterfly) around your photo. Make sure you provide space for journaling on the right side of the shaped cardstock.
8. Add title by positioning your letter stickers on top of the striped paper.
9. Finally, write your journaling in the space provided.
