10 Things I Love About Mom -- Article Mother’s Day celebrations journey back to ancient times. People in many cultures celebrated motherhood by honoring them, embodied as goddesses. The modern day version of Mother’s Day, which was approved as a national holiday by Congress in 1914, is a day to celebrate not only maternal mothers, but the women in our lives that show us affection, tenderness, love and care. I think Mother’s Day holds great significance to all of us in one way or another. Although mothers should be praised on a daily basis for all of the amazing things they do, this holiday gives us an opportunity to do something really exceptional for our special mothers!
