Tips & Techniques by Penny Crocker Wasmund
Find a store near you! Printable Project Card
Intermediate—This card uses the Bargello method in shades of green together with a beautiful calligraphy sticker.
Supplies
  • Periwinkle Blue Cardstock - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" (Artist's Own)
  • Celery Cardstock - 5 1/4" x 4" (Artist's Own)
  • Various scraps of decorative paper in shades of green, cut about 6" long (Artist's Own)
  • White Copy Paper (Artist's Own)
  • Large Paper Cutter (Fiskars)
  • Personal Trimmer (Creative Memories)
  • Glue Stick (UHU)
  • Scissors (Artist's Own)
  • Hydrangea Sticker (Mrs. Grossman's)
  • Calligraphy Sticker (Uptown Rubber Stamps)
Instructions

1. Cut strips from various decorative paper in shades of green, each strip about 6" in length and varying widths.

2. Rub glue stick over an area on white copy paper the length of your strips and wide enough to allow you to put down several strips before drying. Continue laying strips down in this matter, going from darkest to lightest and back to darkest so that darker colors are on the edges. Cut off excess copy paper around strips, cutting right to edge of strips and cleaning up the ends with paper cutter.

3. Turn block of colored strips a quarter turn and begin cutting various width strips, cutting ACROSS colors.

4. Glue strips to celery panel in a diagonal pattern using glue stick, moving the pattern up and down by keeping colors near each other, but not exactly next to each other and allowing the strips to run over the edges. (Lay out your pattern before gluing to make sure you're getting the movement you want). Vary widths by using a fatter strip, then a skinny strip, etc.

5. Trim around edges of celery panel, trimming off the excess strips that run over.

6. Glue celery panel to blue card front. Add calligraphy sticker over the Bargello pattern and a hydrangea sticker in the upper left corner.
