American PRIDE Americana by Holle Wiktorek |
|
As many troops deploy to the Middle East, American pride grows and family bonds are challenged and strengthened with separation. Reminders of our fallen heroes and those fighting for our freedom flood my mind as my personal Army soldier faces a desert deployment; so I designed this layout to share our sons innocence, patriotism, and childhood.

Instructions
1. Follow and cut zig-zag design of brown patterned paper with mini scalloped scissors. Use 12 X 12 paper trimmer for straight cuts. Adhere to edges of blue paper.
2. Cut a 9 X 9 square of paisley paper, wrap blue ribbon around bottom and adhere to back side of square. (This piece will become the center of the layout, but it is easier to attach journaling and photos to the paisley square before adding to the 12 X 12 paper.)
3. Adhere rub-ons (PRIDE) to 5 X 7 photo, and mount photo to top left side of paisley square.
4. Mat two photos (3 X 3 Ύ each photo size) with wood grained paper, and attach with foam adhesive to bottom right side of paisley square.
5. Type journaling in shape of a star pattern. (Star clip art and textbox in Microsoft Word were used) Print on tan cardstock and cut a 4 Ό X 4 Ό star.
6. Cut a 4 X 4 star from blue floral paper. Adhere to top right of paisley square. Mount tan journaling star to top of blue star and create a shadow effect.
7. Adhere embellished paisley square to blue background paper with foam squares.
8. Cut 24 ½ circles from burgundy patterned paper. (Notice the star flower pattern on the vertical sides and the clover heart design on the horizontal border of the finished layout.) Mount to brown triangle border with small foam squares.
Layout Symbolism:
Three photos were included to symbolize our number of immediate family members. Two stars, with a shadow effect, show the father/son bond.
