Instructions

The Background
-To create the backdrop of the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, I tore strips of paper in red, pink, yellow, orange and white. I layered the colors on a piece of sky blue paper, and cut out a "grass" pattern on two sheets of green paper, each a different shade. The greens were layered at the bottom of the page, creating the look of a row of flowers.

The Flowers
-I wanted the flowers to look like the rananculas that grow at the flower fields, and I received inspiration from the swirl punch that goes along with the Sizzix Personal Die Cut Machine. The Circle Die and the Medium Swirls Die were used to create the four larger rananculas at the bottom of the page. An EK Success Swirl punch and a McGill Crafts circle punch were used to create the smaller flowers that adorn the bottom of the page. To make the stems of the flowers I simply cut small strips out of the darker green colored cardstock used to make the grassy background. The only hint in making the flowers is to experiment with the colors when layering. Darker and lighter shades of the same color work really well when you can find them.

The Title Topper
-It wasn't a hard thing to name this page. "The Flower Fields" just works really well, don't you think? I wanted to use the Sizzix Personal Die Cut Machine to punch out the words "Flower Fields," but both words would not fit on the page. I simply cut the word "FLOWERS" out of white cardstock and colored grass with an EK Success Zig Writer green marker, and used various EK Success Gel Pens and Zig Writers to draw swirls again representing the rananculas. A light green gel pen was used to draw accent lines in the green on the letters.
-I used the same green Zig Writer to write the words "the" and "Fields" on the top of the page. I added some curls and swirls to the writing to emphasize the other swirls around the page.

Finishing Up
-The same dark red and red that were used throughout the layout were used to frame the pictures that haven't yet been developed... a small box underneath the picture on the right was created to write the date of the trip.
