This is a photo of my granddaughter Madeline that I took a couple of years ago. She is now 5 years old and she is the reason I got into digital scrapbooking. I loved this close-up of her with pigtails and wanted the focus to be on her face because of her sweet innocent expression.
Supplies
  • Digital kit: Always My Heart (Carjazi Designs at Digitalscrapgarden.com)
  • Font: Cantabile
Instructions

1. I always choose my photo first before I decide what paper I want to use from the kit I'm working with for my background.

2. If I'm going to use a frame as I did in this layout that's the next thing I look for and I always make sure the photo works with the frame. If necessary I will cut a plain frame and then merge the two pieces together to fit my photo, I always keep my photos proportioned. It's easy to do in Photoshop elements, hold down the shift key and stretch or shrink your photo by using the arrow at one of the corners.

3. I next decide on what elements I want to use. With his layout I began my layering once I placed my paper down. I then worked from the frame up, I placed the ribbons down first. I then placed the greenery and last the flowers and other elements.

4. After getting my elements where I wanted them I then moved my layers in the layers palette without actually having to move the elements. In doing this you can get the effect that the flowers and other elements are tucked in and behind the leaves. I also chose to use some glitter but that I wanted underneath my photo so even though I added that last, I was able to bring the layer all the way down so that it was on top of the paper by moving the glitter layer in my layer palette.

5. Once I have everything where I want it I then add drop shadows to my elements so they will look as if they are slightly raised from the paper and separate from other elements that are all layered in a cluster.

6. The last thing I did was to add my quote.

My name is Elaine Thompson and I'm a retired bookkeeper. I've been married now to my husband Sid for 38 years and we have two daughters. My oldest daughter Michelle, who is married to Todd. They have two little girls Madeline and Kimberly. My youngest daughter Karen, is married to Jay and they also have two little girls, Kaitlyn and Sydney. I started digiscrapping a few years ago after seeing digital layouts by one of my daughter’s friends. Jodi gave me a one hour crash course on digiscrapping when I went to visit my daughter Karen in Texas and I was hooked. At that time Madeline was my only grandchild so I didn't do as much scrapbooking then as I do now. I enjoy digiscrapping and I want to preserve their childhoods through my layouts and put together some albums for each of them to look back on when they get older. You can visit my blog at elainessunnyspot.blogspot.com to see more of my layouts.

Note: All of the images on scrapbooking.com can be clicked on and one of two things will happen. Either a detailed page about the layout will be displayed or a more detailed version of the picture will appear
