Creative lettering adds so much color and personality to scrapbook pages, yet the thought strikes terror in the hearts of many scrapbookers. Learning how to draw creative letters and borders is really not all that hard. Take the time to learn the basic techniques and soon you will realize how easy, enjoyable and effective creative lettering can be! A fun pattern or fill-in technique like this one, is an easy way to make lettering fit any occasion. Use colored pencils for designs that require shading, markers for clean, bright colors, watercolors for a vibrant hand painted look and artist chalks for a soft old-fashioned look.

Print off the Picnic page title and transfer it onto a scrapbook page. Tip: Start by drawing the vertical and horizontal lines that make the checkerboard pattern. Fill in the squares with a color of your choice. You don't have to stick with red. Fill in the outline of the letters last. If you're worried about keeping the color within the lines, place the sticky edge of a Post It note along the line. Now add the ants and pin-stitching for even more fun!
