Autumn is a time of change, and what better way to change things than by altering them? Altered Art is quite popular these days, although it has been around since the beginning of time. After all, it is human nature to want to improve or change nearly everything we see, be it our own work or that of another.

Like many stampers, I seem to collect more supplies than I have time to use. The good news about altered art is that you probably won’t have to purchase any supplies to do altered art. I consider it an opportunity to use the things I’ve collected, as well as an opportunity to buy more!

Altered books have gained popularity in the past few years; however, books have been altered to varying degrees since books first came into existence. But Altered Art doesn’t stop at books! You are guaranteed to see the world differently when you begin to think of the possibilities:

Think about latering
  1. Tins
  2. Frames
  3. Dominoes
  4. Playing Cards
  5. Coasters
  6. Tags
  7. Cigar Boxes
  8. Boots
  9. Bingo Cards
  10. Aluminum Cans
  11. Calendars
  12. Glass
  13. Wood
  14. Fabric
  15. Metal
  16. Plastic
  17. … And much more! Your imagination is the only thing that can limit you.

Since there are no rules for this form of art, feel free to let loose and allow your creative spirit to roam free. Do you feel like you need a starting point? Consider taking a workshop to:
  1. Explore new materials and techniques
  2. See what another stamper will create using the same materials
  3. Get inspired by the energy level of a shared workshop
  4. Shop at thrift stores and yard sales for ideas

Fall is a perfect time to create your own altered treasures. Try your hand at altering and let us see what you’re doing!
