I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting Julia Andrus at the Memory Trends and ARTS trade shows. Julia’s energy is never-ending! She has such enthusiasm to share art and stamping techniques with everyone, that before I knew it, I had spent more than 20 minutes at her demonstration soaking up the information! Julia was kind enough to allow me to photograph her exciting process to create faux paste paper with Perfect Pearls and Glossy Accents from Ranger.
Supplies:
- Black Cardstock
- Perfect Pearls (Ranger)
- Glossy Accents (Ranger)
- Suze’s Scoops (Suze Weinberg Design Studio)
- Mixing Cups and Mini Spoons
- Pipette or Dropper
- Water
- Faux Finishing Tool
- Comb or pick
Take a scoop’s worth of Perfect Pearls and place it in the mixing cup.
Add Glossy Accents
Mix up to a creamy consistency. Add a few drops of water if desired for less dense paste.
Continue mixing other colors for your paper.
If you need a color that fits in with the others, but is not in the set, the powders easily mix to create new colors! As seen below, even dry they create the color, and when the color is liquefied with the Glossy Accents, the color is the same. Unlike other powdered products, there is no change in tone.
Now that you have all four of your colors, get out a piece of black cardstock.
Add the colors one at a time to the black cardstock. Do not mix them.
Place each one next to the other, but not touching. This will prevent the colors from getting muddy.

When all the colors are on the paper, there will be some blank spots. It is supposed to be like the one below.
With Faux Finishing Tool, comb through the colors in a wavy motion.
Continue with the Faux Finishing Tool until you get the entire page to follow the same general pattern, then take your other combing tool or another part of the faux finishing tool and move it in a perpendicular motion to create more pattern.
This is what the finished piece will look like. It will take at least 15 minutes to dry, maybe more, depending upon your humidity and how thick of a mixture has been used
Now that the paste paper is dry, you can take it and use it in a project, such as this book cover. It can also be punched!
Julia was kind enough to show us another method of creating paste paper using the Posh Inkabilities, Perfect Pearl colored Perfect Pearls, and Glossy Accents.
First, place the Perfect Pearl into your mixing cup.
Add a few drops of ink to the cup.
Add Glossy Accents to the cup.
Mix up the substances in the cup to the creamy consistency.
Add the mixture to black cardstock as was done above with multiple colors.

Tear the edges to create a shabby chic look, or add it to a tag.
