Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Son, Nephew-these are great men in our lives. Let’s remember them all this Father’s Day and create a card especially "For Him".
Father wears many titles: Papa, Daddy, Dad, or the name you gave him when you were a child. Regardless of what you know him by, we’ve honored him or his memory since June of 1909 when Father’s Day was born. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge lent his support for a national Father's Day. It wasn’t until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
I took inspiration from the poem below to create a card honoring my own father who has passed away. I will send this card to my mother, reminding her of the special place that my dad still holds in my heart and memory.
What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, the comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, the power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, the faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, the depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it...Dad

Making a card for the men in your life can be challenging. Just getting started is often a roadblock. I begin by assembling some unusual stamps, checking my stash of clipart, and saving time for lots of thinking. Sports, television watching, do-it-yourself, hobbies and gardening are great subjects. It’s also a good idea to remember the activities that surround these subjects, such as waving, clapping, cheering, eating, and even shopping! Then, use these topics and subtopics to find stamps and clipart that work for your project.
I used clipart for the focal point of this card and surrounded it with stamped cheering figures. The words "you you you" added enough greeting to personalize the thought.
When it comes to the card for hubby, it gets easier-at least for me it does. After all, you know everything about him, don’t you? And, you probably have stamps that you bought that reminded you of him or his habits . . . good ones and bad ones at that. I popped the cork with this card!
Using a die cut, I experimented with wire mesh and aluminum metal to cut out and assemble this motorcycle. By layering the two colors of metal together, I added depth and texture. The background behind the cycle connotes that it is heaven bound, or even made by an angel. (That’s a nice thought, isn’t it?)
Father’s Day will soon be here-get out the stamps, put on your thinking cap, and create some great cards "For Him".
