During the Memory Trends Trade Show in Las Vegas, Dee Gruenig was kind enough to spend some time with us and show us how to create some great backgrounds perfect for scrapbook pages and paper crafting backgrounds. Because this is a technique that can leave you hands stained with the inks, Dee recommends using a pair of ProCraft’s new Multi-Purpose Gloves.

Step 1: On the “face” portion of a Posh Impressions’ Rainbow Sponge, create a design using Metallic Inkabilities, being sure to really saturate the sponge.

Step 2: Using a 12” x 12” piece of coated cardstock, gently stamp sponge onto corner of paper.

Step 3: Rotate sponge a quarter turn and gently stamp sponge next to first impression. By turning the sponge a quarter turn you are able to continue the pattern you have created on the sponge.

Step 4: Continue to make images all the away across the bottom edge of the paper, always turning the sponge a quarter turn. Please note that you will have to use a firmer compression as you get to the end, but the stamp will have enough ink in it to complete the process without having to re-ink it.

Step 5: Heat set the metallic images using your heat gun.

Step 6: Choose a dye based Posh Impressions Inkabilities Color and spread a few drops onto a plastic plate, then ink up a Rainbow Sponge with the ink.

Step 7: Spritz the top of the inked up Rainbow Sponge with a mist of water from a spray bottle.

Step 8: Apply ink directly from the sponge onto the bordered paper you have just created, until entire sheet is covered.

Step 9: Wipe off ink from metallic borders using a paper towel or tissue.

Step 10: Add a distressed look to the page by spraying a spritz of water from the spray bottle straight up into the air over the paper and letting the droplets fall onto the page. Don’t spray the water directly onto the page.

Step 11: To complete the distressed look, wipe off water from paper using a paper towel or tissue. Depending on weather you wipe or blot will determine how distressed your paper will look.

The final background created will make a fabulous 12” x 12” scrapbook page or can be used for other paper crafting projects.

In addition to creating borders with the Metallic Inkabilities, you can also create different and dramatic resist patterns that cover the entire background. The possibilities of this technique are endless, no matter what paper crafting project you choose to use it with.

We’d like to thank Dee for sharing this technique with us; it was a pleasure to spend a few quiet minutes with you at Memory Trends.
