These projects are for beginner level paper crafters.

Mother’s Day is a special day for mothers as well as daughters. May is a time to reflect and show our appreciation for all of the special women who have helped us become the women we are today. Mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, girlfriends, teachers, and mentors are all role models who have played an integral part in our lives. A journal is just the place to express your thoughts and highlight some of your favorite photos and mementos.

When this journal was constructed (http://scrapbooking.com/cgi-bin/Phase_2/layout.pl?serial=36664) envelope pockets were included. The pockets can be used to store additional photos, cards or letters. The advantage of creating your own journal is that you can make it perfect for you! Pockets can be enhanced with decorative paper, paint to coordinate with the adjoining pages.

The background on the first page was painted with acrylic paint. Mom’s prom photo was attached with photo corners. Stickers and rubber stamps were added, along with a handwritten quote. Handwritten notes add a personal touch to your journaling. You needn’t worry about your penmanship---that’s part of the personal beauty of a journal. If it really troubles you, however, use your computer to print quotes, page headings, and your thoughts. Add stickers, decorative paper, lace, and other embellishments to finish your pages. You may also decide to sketch, draw, or paint in your journal.

These pages were accented with mulberry paper, decorative paper, and stickers. Bits of lace and ribbon add the final touches to the photo and quotes. The pocket on the left will hold mementos for safekeeping.

Slide Mounts frame each of the photos on the left page. The primary colors were used to retain the childlike feel of the photos of five little girls. The five little girls are my little sisters---some of the most important women in my life! The quote on the right, from the Autumn Leaves vellum collection, is mounted on white cardstock before being added to the page. The quote certainly helps capture the feeling of hectic mornings in a house full of girls---I couldn’t have said it better myself. In addition to preprinted phrases such as this, quotes and poetry can be found in books or online. Print them yourself in your favorite color and font. Add a few handwritten thoughts for a personal touch.

Girlfriends are women who also add a lot to our lives---namely, sanity for the crazy days! Not to mention support for on the bad days. Stickers from Memories in the Making add a whimsical touch with the divas on the left. Quotes and more stickers set the tone for “girl time” on the right page. Handwritten phrases and doodles finish the page.
