This article contains projects for all levels of paper crafters.

If you’re anything like me, you have the best of intentions about sending out birthday and anniversary cards to friends and family, but the occasion rolls around and you find yourself short on time to get your cards made and out in the mail. A perpetual calendar book with pockets is perfect for keeping track of those important days and for storing cards you make in advance.

The basic book is very simple to make and can be bound however you please. This one has a coil binding. If you don’t have ready access to a coil binder, you can take your finished pages to a store such as Kinko’s to have it bound for you. Remember to leave at least 1/2 inch on the left side of your pages to accommodate your binding.

As you’re working on this project, keep all of the pages in the order they’ll be in the final book. This helps to keep colors and months straight as you create the elements to be placed on the pages. When the book is open flat, the pockets will be the left side of the spread and the backside of the pockets will be the right side of the spread. The right side of the page spread is where the days of the month will be laid out for you to fill in the names of friends and family.

This book would make a great birthday or holiday gift as well. Consider the tastes of the recipient as far as colors and decorations go. Here are samples of various months in this particular book.

In future articles, we’ll be looking at variations on binding and presentation of these perpetual calendars.
