2 5 ½” x 5 ½” pieces of cardstock
2 5 ½” x 5 ½” pieces of chipboard
1 3” x 5 ½” piece of cardstock
1 8” x 5 ½” piece of cardstock
Approximately 30” of ribbon
Glue

Scissors
-Finished size 5 ½” x 5 ½”

1. On each of the 8 ½” x 11” pieces, measure 3” in from a long side and score a line.

2. Fold along the scored line and crease well.

3. Fold in half, matching short sides together. Crease well. These units will be the book’s pages.

4. On the 8” x 5 ½” piece of cardstock, measure 1” from a short side and score a line. Measure 1” from the score line and score a second line. Continue scoring at 1” intervals until you reach the other side. You will have 7 scored lines.

5. Accordion fold along the scored lines and crease well. This piece will be the spine.

6. Attach each page to one of the mountain folds on the spine by gluing one side of the page to one side of the fold:

Apply glue to the inside of the page and press the front and back halves together, catching the mountain fold between them:

Repeat for the remaining two pages:

7. Secure the open ends of the page pockets with glue.

8. On the 3” x 5 ½” piece of cardstock, measure 1” from a long side and score a line. Measure 1” from the score line and score a second line. Fold along the score lines and crease well. This piece will be the spine cover.

9. Cover one side of each piece of chipboard with decorative paper, wrapping the edges around to the other side. These will be the front and back covers. (Note: Cardstock can be used in place of the chipboard but the covers will not be as sturdy.)

10. Glue ribbon to the back sides of the covers, leaving a 1” gap between them. (Note: This step can be skipped if you prefer to have your closing ties on the outside or to have no ties at all.)

11. Attach the pages to the covers by gluing the free ends of the spine to the insides of the covers.

12. Line the covers by gluing the two 5 ½” x 5 ½” pieces of cardstock to the inside of each cover.

13. Cover the outer side of the spine cover with decorative paper.

14. Attach the spine cover by gluing it over the front and back covers.
