The Let’s ALL Scrapbook Program Manual was developed by Scrapping 4 Inclusion with the guidance of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation. The manual provides suggestions and instructions so that anyone can organize and offer this program to children in their community. Let’s ALL Scrapbook takes a simple idea and makes it easy to follow for everyone.
In the summer of 2007, volunteers from Scrapping 4 Inclusion and The Bubel/Aiken Foundation teamed up to run a pilot of the Let’s ALL Scrapbook program. This was offered at the YMCA in Raleigh, NC during their summer camp. A total of 10 scrapbooking times were offered involving approximately 250 children. The children had a fabulous time as did the volunteers that participated. The most amazing feedback we received was from the YMCA counsellors: “This was the most engaging activity that the kids have ever been involved in.” A volunteer said: “Everyone enjoyed it—the girls, the boys, children with and without disabilities alike. It truly was an inclusive experience for all. To be honest, I personally think the volunteers and the YMCA staff gained more from the experience then the children themselves did.”
Every opportunity to include children together in an activity is taking one step closer to having our communities become more inclusive for all children all the time. Kid crafts help to foster creativity and imagination. They give children a sense of accomplishment. By encouraging a child’s creative side, you will not only help to develop their imagination, but also improve the way they feel about themselves.
So who can coordinate a Let’s ALL Scrapbook program? Anyone and everyone can.
As a scrapbooker, you already have a love for the hobby. Now just go out there and share it. Simply download your copy of the manual, gather a few friends together and get out into your community and share your craft with the children. This is a great opportunity to make a difference locally while sharing your hobby.
The Let’s ALL Scrapbook Manual offers complete instructions for facilitating a scrapbooking session for children. The manual outlines the benefits of a Let’s ALL Scrapbook program to a person with a disability, a person without a disability and to the community. Ideas on where to offer a Let’s ALL Scrapbook program are also included. Instructions are given on how to start a program, project suggestions, supply listing as well as how to obtain funding/donations for your event and some training tips on working with children with and without disabilities.
Anyone wishing to help promote inclusion by using this activity is encouraged to do so. The Let’s ALL Scrapbook manual is available for downloading on the Scrapping 4 Inclusion website, simply click the “Let’s ALL Scrapbook” button. Anyone offering this program is encouraged to let us know so we can publicize the information on our website.
Enjoy and Happy Scrapping!
