The Background-To create the backdrop of the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, I tore strips of paper in red, pink, yellow, orange and white. I layered the colors on a piece of sky blue paper, and cut out a "grass" pattern on two sheets of green paper, each a different shade. The greens were layered at the bottom of the page, creating the look of a row of flowers.
The Flowers
-I wanted the flowers to look like the ranunculas that grow at the flower fields, and I received inspiration from the swirl punch that goes along with the Sizzix Personal Die Cut Machine. The Circle Die and the Medium Swirls Die were used to create the four larger rananculas at the bottom of the page. An EK Success Swirl punch and a McGill Crafts circle punch were used to create the smaller flowers that adorn the bottom of the page. To make the stems of the flowers I simply cut small strips out of the darker green colored cardstock used to make the grassy background. The only hint in making the flowers is to experiment with the colors when layering. Darker and lighter shades of the same color work really well when you can find them.
The Title Topper
-It wasn't a hard thing to name this page. "The Flower Fields" just works really well, don't you think? I wanted to use the Sizzix Personal Die Cut Machine to punch out the words "Flower Fields," but both words would not fit on the page. I simply cut the word "FLOWERS" out of white cardstock and colored grass with an EK Success Zig Writer green marker, and used various EK Success Gel Pens and Zig Writers to draw swirls again representing the rananculas. A light green gel pen was used to draw accent lines in the green on the letters.
-I used the same green Zig Writer to write the words "the" and "Fields" on the top of the page. I added some curls and swirls to the writing to emphasize the other swirls around the page.
Finishing Up
-The same dark red and red that were used throughout the layout were used to frame the pictures that haven't yet been developed... a small box underneath the picture on the right was created to write the date of the trip.
This is a great page to display any quilt, not just a baby quilt. It can be "My First Quilt" if you quilt as a hobby, or "Sports Quilt" to match the theme of the quilt. I created the baby quilt page because I liked the soft colors.-Begin by selecting a patterned quilt "fabric" paper, or select a few papers to use for the hearts and backdrops of the page. I used two plaids from the "Just Ducky Baby" Scrap Pad by ProvoCraft.
-Next, a heart and the word "quilt" were punched using the Sizzix Primitive Hearts Die Cut and the Sizzix Fun Serif Uppercase Alphabet.
-Cut the same plaid into a background for the title topper.
-Cut another primitive heart using a contrasting plaid or pattern to add some variety to the page.
-"Sew" buttons to the heart shapes using embroidery floss.
-Tear a piece of paper for the backdrop of the photo.
-Cut a second smaller mat for the photo. The outside tear and inside straight cut add dimension to the page.
-Adhere the "QUILT" title to a piece of paper the same color as the inside piece of paper the photo is mounted on.
-Mount the "QUILT" on the plaid piece previously cut.
-Use adhesive to arrange the components of the page.
-Use embroidery floss and a glue pen or spray adhesive to form the word "baby" or any other description of the quilt.
This is a great layout for beginners! If you are new to using die cuts or just pulled your Sizzix out of the box, get ready for an easy way to make a fun layout.-First I matched cardstock colors to the colors in the photos I had, mostly teals and blues.
-Next I used the Sizzix to cut about 5 wave die cuts in each of three colors, teal, dark teal, and navy blue.
-I used adhesive to put together strips of waves and then layered the strips.
-I then mounted the entire border to the bottom of the page.
-The dark teal was the most noticeable color on the wave in the photograph, so I cropped the photos, cutting around the wave, and mounted them on the dark teal cardstock. I then cut around the photo leaving about a 1/4 inch border.
-To create the journaling box I mounted two wave die cuts to the back of a navy blue piece of cardstock.
-To make the title topper I used the uppercase Fun Serif alphabet from Sizzix. I cut a set in the teal and dark teal and created a shadow look so that the teal did not blend to much into the blue paper.
-I used a sailor glue pen to affix the letters, and created water drops from the inside of the "R" die cut.
-A blue Zig Writer was used to color a blue wave pattern over the letters, thus completing the layout.
