My scrapbook layouts tend toward the artsy. I rarely use premade embellishments, preferring to create my own using a myriad of stamping, inking, embossing and painting techniques. By experimenting with materials and constantly challenging myself to learn new mixed-media art techniques, I feel as though I’m honoring my authentic voice to tell my scrapbooking stories.

Rather than using patterned holiday paper for my Christmas-themed layout, I decided to stamp my own background. While I originally planned to use embossing powders, I worried about keeping control over such a large surface area. I decided to give the layout a hand-painted metallic look instead. I achieved the look I wanted with a concoction of some of my favorite art products from Ranger.

I finished my second page layout with a collage of small photos to offset the one large photo on the opposite page. Adding the same red velvet ribbon and holly leaves ensures visual continuity.
