Every good design starts with a clean, basic letter that can be embellished. Keep practicing with shading and color techniques. Then add them to simple letter shapes.

Here's a practice chart to get you started. Begin with a simple letter in pencil, then carefully draw the full design around it. Make a good and careful black outline then erase the pencil lines completely. When you color the design, always start with lighter colors and build up to darker ones. Remember you can always go darker but never lighter once a color is applied. Keep practicing and be patient until you achieve the look you want.

2. Add a serif to all tips of letters. Draw serifs horizontally or at angles.
