Borders don’t necessarily have to be separate from your title.  Block letters are easy and can be very dramatic.  Decide what size letters will be needed, and then number of letters needed.  A good idea is to make a few extra just in case of mistakes!  Cut 1 ½” squares using a 12” Fiskars paper trimmer. First cut a 1 1/2” strip along the length of the paper.  Then using the ruler guide on the cutter and cut 1 1/2"  blocks.  when using a second color to mat,  cut a 1 3/4” strip of the second color, and then cut the strip into 1 /34" blocks.  The process is very quick after you get into the swing of it.  After the squares are complete lettering is done on each individual square and mounted on the second color matting square if desired. This is a great technique because if you mess up on one letter because you haven’t spoiled the whole border.  Those who are not talented at lettering or want a quicker way to letter a page can use sticker letters on their squares just as easily.

Supplies

  • Cardstock and die cut flowers (Pebbles in My Pocket)

  • Memory Pencils and Zig Twin Tip Pens (EK Success)

  • Lettering idea, The Art of Creative Lettering (Creating Keepsakes)

  • Circle punch (Marvy Uchida)

Cut blocks for letters as in directions above.  Pencil in letters and outline in pen, then erase the pencil lines.  Embellish and fill in the main part of letter with two shades of green pencils.  Using a black pen, detail flower petals on die cuts.  Punch orange and yellow circles for flower centers and glue down.   Add detail to flower center.  Place block letters down the side of the page.  Put flowers on top and tucked behind the blocks.  Mount photo on bright pink, and then yellow cardstock, then place on page.  On text box, use the #3 Journaling Genie for journaling placement.  Mount on bright pink paper, and then on yellow paper and place on page.
