I can still remember the thrill of the first
Hobby Industry Association (HIA) Show that I attended in January 1997.
Scrapbooking.com was only a few months old and I wanted to attend the Hobby
Industry Trade Show. I had never attended a trade show before. I had
no idea what I would find at the show. I thought it would be great to report to the
online scrapbookers what was new and exciting in scrapbooking and rubber
stamping. Before the
show, I only thought that there were a handful of companies that sold scrapbooking
products. After the show I had very sore feet, a list of over a hundred companies
with scrapbook related products and a
box full of catalogs and brochures that must have weighed over 50 pounds.
My husband, Mark, and I had spent 2 full days dashing through thousands of
booths looking at each one trying to see if they made scrapbooking
products or had any products that might be used for scrapbooking.
I found a large number of products that
year that were new to me or new to the scrapbooking industry. Many of them
are still my favorite products, like the products from EK Success, Provo
Craft and Making Memories. Many of the small companies that I first met at
the 1997 HIA show have grown significantly in the last three years as has the entire scrapbooking industry. It has been exciting
for me to watch as scrapbooking has grown so much in so short a period of
time. There is no doubt that scrapbookers spend a
sizeable amount of the more than 10 billion dollars that are spent every
year on crafting.
I am eager to attend the Hobby Industry Association Trade
Show this year with the Creative Team at ShopA-Z.com. The show will be
reviewed by Scrapbooking.com here
and I will be reporting the best new products from the show like I have since 1997.
Please join in the excitement of the 2000 HIA show. I know that you'll find some great new products to
help you create your best scrapbook pages yet.
