Question:
Have
been coming back daily looking for new ideas but I keep seeing the same "Hey
Dude" so far this year. I
just started checking 1/1. Appreciate
the idea and not complaining just
wondering.
Answer:
If you
bookmark the Layout Page you will be book marking that one layout page and
so you will see the same page over and over again. In order to use the
Layout a Day feature and view a new layout every day you will need to
click into the Layout of the Day link from the main http://Scrapbooking.com
page OR from the contents page.
At the end of the month you will be able to find all the pages from this
month archived in the appropriate archive of our magazine.
Question: I
would rather use reproductions of some of my photos (produced on my Canon
Ink-Jet printer) instead of the originals.
I guess I would need to make
the prints on acid-free paper. What
about the ink itself? Would it be
acid-free?
Answer: Most
ink is acid free by nature. However, the issue of permanence in another
matter! Most of the inks used by ink jet printers are not permanent. If
you use the inks for journalizing or making photos these documents and
photos will fade over the years. Also, if your album got wet, the ink
could run and ruin other photos and pages in your album.
Recently archival
inks have become available. Lysonic
has a set of inks that are formulated from four purified extremely light
fast dyes for water based ink jet printers.
Results published in
October of 1999 by Henry Wilhelm claim a predicted display life of 1 to
over 120 years dependent upon paper. Mr. Wilhelm is considered to be an
authority with regard to indoor fade testing of fine art and photographic
images. In fact, the International Association of Fine Art Digital
Printers (IAFADP) bases their ink and media longevity statements according
to his findings. Mr. Wilhelm has an informative website here: http://www.wilhelm-research.com
There is also a
printer on the market made by a company called Alps that uses a Micro-dry
technology that they claim is archival but I have not seen any longevity statements
about their inks from an independent researcher.
For
printing photos or other items for your scrapbook be sure to get
archival papers like those made by Ilford.
