Successful Summer Sales

It seems the cycle never ends! You’ve recently returned from ACCI and it’s already time to start thinking about MemoryTrends! I know what you’re thinking: I am just about caught up with my sleep and now she’s telling me to prepare for Memory Trends?

Well, yes. But I’m not talking about scheduling your flights and hotel rooms (which, by the way, you ought to do…). I’m talking more about preparing your store and reviewing your inventory. I’ve talked about this before: knowing your inventory and your customer is the most important thing you can do to make sure you have a strong sense of what your store needs. This is something that you should always know, but it is never more important than in the time between just placing ACCI orders and getting ready for new product roll-outs at MemoryTrends. 

Consider this: you are waiting for your orders from ACCI. You have a decent amount of stock in place now and you also have a large amount on order. Where exactly are you going to put all of this extra stock? Well, the best place for it is in your customers’ hands.

Though summertime can be a slow time for classes and for traffic, you have the power to change that! Follow the lead of other retailers. For example, a local clothing store relayed to me that July is their slowest month. To combat this, the owner has a daily sale; each day something new is on sale. She knows that no word gets customers in the door faster than that fabulous four-letter word: Sale!

The biggest question often asked is, "How do you know which items to put on sale?" Take a look at your recent purchases at ACCI as your queue:

· Did you buy a lot of stickers at ACCI? Are you planning to at MemoryTrends? Run a sale on stickers to move your stickers out and make room for the new ones. 

· Do you have all the new vellum styles on order? Have a blowout sale for the older designs. 

· Is there a new cutter you purchased? Discount the current ones.

With these tips, you’ll quickly find your door opening and your customers buying!
